Kalam’ meaning pen and ‘kari’ meaning art, Kalamkari literally translates to ‘pen craft’ created using natural pens such as bamboo. The motifs that adorn the fabric focus on flora, fauna and human forms. This art form is practised in the Sri Kalahasti district of Andhra Pradesh. Another form of Kalamkari coming from the coastal town of Machiliptanam in Andhra Pradesh mostly uses hand blocks for printing.
